The guitars we own

Over the years we have built up a collection of guitars, both electric and acoustic. Most I bought or was given, plus a couple that my son left here, but as he has replaced them with other similar models, I don’t think he will reclaim them.

So here they are:

#1: Fender American Professional Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde

I bought this in 2020, in a bit of a panic really, as Fender had just announced that due to the shortage of swamp ash, the only ash bodied guitars that they would make in the future would be Custom Shop models. So I found this ash bodied American Pro, raided the piggy bank, and bought it. Turns out it’s the guitar that stays in tune better than any of my other guitars and plays really nicely

#2: 2015 Gibson SG Special

Back in 2015 my daughter’s partner called me and said ‘Hey, I’ve just seen a brand new Gibson SG at quite a discount if you’re interested.’ As the shop selling it were offering 12 months interest free credit on it, how could I say no? There was one small problem. Being a 2015 Gibson it had those G FORCE automatic tuners. They sort of worked, sort of most of the time. But after a few moths of having to make minor corrections the the tuning, I decided to swap them for a set of manual tuners. No regrets.

#3: Sunn Mustang

We bought this for our son for his 15th birthday. A few years later he decided he needed a car more than he needed a guitar, so we bought it back from him. Made in India, back in the days when Fender owned Sunn, an HSS equipped Strat copy, and heavy compared to a Fender Strat. I’m guessing it’s probably an alder body.

#4: Morris Hurricane

A Pre-Loved Christmas present from my dear wife some years ago, this is a Gibson Les Paul copy. A setup by Kempster & Son in Swindon, when they also re-potted one of the pickups which had become microphonic, and it’s a very reasonable guitar.

#5: Washburn HB30

Back in the early 2010s I was looking for and ES335 style guitar. Couldn’t justify spending the £2k+ on a real Gibson, so bought this Washburn copy.

#6: SX Custom Handmade VTG Series Bass

This is a Fender Precision Bass copy dating back to about 2012.

#7: Ashton Electro Acoustic 12-string

I bought an acoustic 12-string back in the late ’60s. Don’t remember the make or model, but it ended up needing a lot of work doing to it, probably more than the guitar was worth. So I donated it to a good home and bought is

#8: Ibanez Electro Acoustic

This guitar belongs to my son, Gavin, who is limited to how many guitars he’s allowed to keep in his house. So it’s kinda on permanent loan. At least it means I can delay purchasing my own acoustic until I’ve saved enough for something like, say, a Taylor.

#9: Tanglewood Odyssey Electro Acoustic

This is another of Gavin’s guitars, The model number is TMO-7CAR.
